Michael L. Mangini

Michael L. Mangini is Of Counsel to Velella & Basso, handling probate, estate planning and administration, estate litigation, guardianship, and personal injury matters before the Surrogate’s Court, the New York State Supreme Court, and the Federal Courts in the State of New York.

Prior to affiliating with Velella & Basso, Michael was a general litigator at large Manhattan law firms for approximately eight years, defending corporate, non-profit, and insurance clients against Personal Injury, Property Damage, Breach of Contract, and Condominium/ Co-op disputes. Prior to that, Michael worked for a boutique corporate law firm in San Diego, California.

Nazaire v. First States Investors 5200, et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, Queens Co. 14177/2010: Obtained summary dismissal of slip-and-fall lawsuit against client landowner.

LaGuerre v. Aspenly Co., LLC, et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, Queens Co.706019/2014: Obtained summary dismissal of slip-and-fall lawsuit against client, a well-known sandwich chain in NYC.

Arelie F. v. Cathedral Props., LLC, et al., New York State Appellate Division, First Dep’t, 2016 NY Slip Op. 04665: Argued and drafted appeal in case of first impression that resulted in complete dismissal of multi-million dollar lead paint claims against Bronx housing complex.

Canning v. Wellington Tower Condominiums, et al., U.S. Dist. Ct. for the Southern District of New York 1:15-cv-04324: Obtained summary dismissal of Federal civil rights and torts lawsuit against client condo board.

Bonventre v. Soho Mews Condominium, et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 153756/2015: Obtained summary dismissal of fall-from-ladder lawsuit against client landowner/ condominium board.

Jones v. DAK Equities Corp., et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 100190/2015: Obtained summary judgment for indemnity and attorneys’ fees on behalf of client co-op board, arising from dispute between client and contractors regarding private nuisance claim of resident.

Johnson v. Hill Country Brooklyn LLC, et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 17366/2014: Obtained summary dismissal of trip-and-fall lawsuit against client restaurant.

Schwartz v Geffen, et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 152388/2016: Obtained voluntary dismissal with no payment by client or indemnitors in high-profile property damages lawsuit against client co-op board and multi-billionaire media mogul.

Cavalier Construction v. Avenues World Holdings LLC, et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 153193/2013: Obtained summary dismissal of construction/ design defect lawsuit against client contractor.

Great Northern Ins. v. American Pipe and Tank Lining Co., Inc., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 154495/2015: Obtained summary dismissal of breach of contract/ indemnity lawsuit against client condo board, arising from property damage to resident’s apartment.

Fleischman v. 205 East 63rd Street Corp., et al., Supreme Ct. of the State of New York, New York Co. 157999/2017: Obtained voluntary dismissal with no payment by client or indemnitors in property damages lawsuit against client co-op board. 

Narragansett Bay Ins. Co. v. T53 Condominium, LLC, et al. 156936/2017: Obtained summary dismissal of subrogation lawsuit against client condo board, arising from property damage to residential unit.
